Unsurprisingly, Drake earned himself another turn through the injury-plagued Arizona rotation after delivering a sterling performance in his MLB debut Tuesday. Drake took a no-decision in the Diamondbacks' extra-inning win over the Athletics, holding the opposition to one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters across the first five innings. Before receiving his promotion to the big leagues, the 26-year-old southpaw had submitted a 6.92 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 60:31 K:BB with Triple-A Reno across 66.1 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

Drake will be making his MLB debut Tuesday, after he didn't appear in a game when he was called up as an emergency option in late June. The left-hander has had an up-and-down season for Reno, posting a 6.92 ERA over 17 appearances (16 starts). With Zac Gallen (elbow), recently joining the likes of Ryne Nelson (elbow), Michael Soroka (glute) and Corbin Burnes (elbow) on the injured list, Drake will step into the fifth spot of a depleted Arizona rotation. With a strong showing Tuesday, Drake could earn himself additional starts.

The Diamondbacks received a boost Sunday when Jose Cabrera came up from Triple-A Reno and filled in admirably as a starter in place of the injured Ryne Nelson (elbow), but the club still needs to address another hole in the rotation created by Michael Soroka's (glute) move to the injured list. Like Cabrera, Drake had been serving as a starter at Reno and was also called up Sunday, but Drake wasn't needed to provide length out of the bullpen in the Diamondbacks' 4-2 loss to the Twins while Cabrera covered five innings. If he continues to go unused in relief in the first two games of the Cardinals' series in St. Louis, Drake would make for a logical choice to serve as Soroka's replacement in the rotation.
