The Reds have agreed to terms with Burns on a seven-year, $105 million contract extension, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
The deal will begin in 2027 and run through 2033 and is a major-league record for a pitcher with less than four years of service time. Burns made his first All-Star team in 2026, carrying a 2.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 118:37 K:BB over 102.2 frames across 18 starts into the break. The right-hander boasts a 30.8 percent strikeout rate in 31 career appearances (26 starts) at the big-league level.

Burns dealt with a groin issue during his most recent start July 8 against the Phillies, prompting him to pull out of his first All-Star Game appearance. The injury was never viewed as a major concern, and with the All-Star break providing Burns with some extra time to recuperate, he won't have to miss a turn through the rotation. The 23-year-old righty closed the first half with an 11-1 record, 2.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 118:37 K:BB across 102.2 innings over 18 starts.
Burns will not play in Tuesday's All-Star Game due to a right groin injury he suffered during his last start Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Burns, who labored through five innings and 106 pitches, was injured while covering home plate on a wild pitch. The right-hander said he didn't feel anything wrong while on the mound for the rest of the game but felt tightness the following day. He huddled with manager Terry Francona and the front office and decided it was best to not represent the National League in the midsummer classic. There has been no mention of imaging, which suggests the 23-year-old could return following the All-Star break.

After giving up a season-high five runs in his last outing, Burns rebounded with a strong effort Thursday to grab his 10th win.
